Secretary Health

Tuberculosis remains a major health challenge for the population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. TB is still among the leading diseases causing morbidity and mortality in our population. The Health Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is committed to see a reduction in the prevalence and deaths due to TB, thereby reducing the socio-economic burden placed by this disease upon our families, communities and the whole nation. This can only be achieved with our full involvement and participation. The role of an effective TB Programme is to save lives, but we need to move faster. The Health Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has aligned its TB Control Strategies with the National and Global initiatives, starting from DOTS implementation strategy to STOP TB strategy and currently joined hands with the global community in the ambitious paradigm shift to End TB. The END TB Strategy is a plan of action envisioned with commitment for bold action against this dreadful disease.

Mr. Mehmood Aslam

Director General Health Services

Tuberculosis (TB) is a leading cause of death and a major public health problem not only globally but also in Pakistan. The Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also shares a significant disease burden with the exiting TB cases. TB is an impediment to the human development and is included in the targets for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Health development can only be sustainable if it is conducted within the framework of a national/provincial policy of socioeconomic development. The Health Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is conscious of the fact and significant efforts are being made in this context to strengthen health services for our population under a larger framework. It is important to note that the coordination between the different stakeholders is a key element for these efforts to be effective. This coordination addresses, specifically, harmonization of a planning process towards a single vision of the health plan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Donors, technical partners and other international stakeholders are more inclined to support health plans that are harmonious.
